CACHE To Welcome Students for Native American Day Field Trip

(EXETER, CA) – The Center for Art, Culture, and History—Exeter (CACHE) will be welcoming over 300 fourth graders from Lincoln, Rocky Hill, Sequoia Union, Outside Creek, and Eleanor Roosevelt Charter Learning Center schools who are scheduled to visit the museum on March 19 for Native American Day-Lessons from the Yokuts.

The field trip has been organized by the CACHE Board and Jennifer Malone, Wakchumni tribe representative. It will be divided into three sessions and will feature stations led by tribal members on the following topics: Tule decoy ducks, baskets, soaproot brushes, storytelling, Wukchumni language, walnut dice game, milkweed ropes, acorn processing, and rock painting. Students will be put into groups of 10 to 12 and assigned a Yokut tribal name from the following list: Wukchumni, Wuksachi, Tachi, Choinumni, Mono, Yowlumni, Chukchansi, Yokodo, and Ga’weah.

We are excited to introduce students to these fascinating elements of Yokuts culture with a helpful team of retired teachers who will be on site to guide them through this activity-filled event.
